David Parton

I should be Labour’s candidate for Shrewsbury and Atcham at the next general election because I am an effective campaigner, who knows how to win.

It’s time for change in Shrewsbury and Atcham. The challenges we face call for a fresh approach. Whether it’s the cost-of-living crisis or the climate emergency, I am standing up to be counted to tackle these massive challenges for future generations.

I’m Shrewsbury born and bred. Raised by my single mum on the Grange council estate, attending the Grange school that was failed by Ofsted while I was there, I know first hand that a Labour government isn’t a nice-to-have. It is absolutely essential. My experience leading local campaigns, such as to protect Shropshire’s youth and mental health service, gives me a unique understanding of our constituency’s communities, and the lived experience to unite working and middle class voters.

I’ve spent 5 years working in PR and communications on national campaigns. I helped coordinate the communications strategy for the winning campaign to elect the first ever Labour administration to Westminster City Council last year. I have also set the political agenda, as with my campaign on the Clive statue that secured 14,000 petition signatures and widespread media coverage. I have already successfully lobbied the government to ban fraudulent investment scams that prey on the elderly and most vulnerable, and named and shamed the UK’s biggest companies to cut bosses’ pay and increase the number of women in senior management.

I am the candidate who can win this seat and – crucially – defend it in future elections. If elected, I’ll be able to deliver for Shrewsbury and Atcham given my national experience. I would be able to get things done and achieve results for you on day one.
