YOUR BRANCH
• The Shrewsbury Labour Party (CLP)
covers the parliamentary constituency
of Shrewsbury.
• It is organised into five Branches
which are a collection of Electoral
Districts (Wards). The Shrewsbury
and Women’s Forum also has
the status of a Branch.
• Your local branch is your first port of
call for getting involved.
• Branches normally meet once a month.
You should receive notification of all your
branch meetings from the branch
secretary at least a week before the
meeting is to be held.
• Any member in the branch can submit
and vote for motions at meetings.
• Branch officers (chair, secretary,
treasurer at a minimum) are elected at
the branch Annual General Meeting
(AGM).
YOUR WARD
• The Shrewsbury Constituency is separated into Electoral
Divisions/Wards.
• Ward Representatives are chosen from
Members in the CLP to represent the
interests of the constituents from that
ward.
• During Local Elections candidates are
selected to represent the party in a
given ward. If they are successful they
then become a Councillor.
THE CLP
• The Constituency Labour Party (CLP) is
made up of every member of the Labour
Party in the constituency.

the opportunity to vote. The GM makes
policy and elects delegates to attend
Regional and National Conferences.
• The CLP is run by the Executive
Committee (EC), which is made up of
officers elected at the Annual General
Meeting (AGM). Any member can stand
for election as a CLP officer.

which coordinates local campaigns in
national and local elections.
