Phil Gillam has served as a Shrewsbury Town Councillor (Sutton & Reabrook) since 2017 and as Mayor of Shrewsbury 2019-2020.
As a journalist for 40 years, beginning his career at the Shrewsbury Chronicle, he has worked for a variety of newspapers but mostly the Shropshire Star and its big sister – the Express & Star in Wolverhampton.
He is passionate about his home town of Shrewsbury and about the importance of strong and supportive communities. His other interests include literature, cinema, pop music, and local history.
Today he is the editor and publisher of the Belle Vue Magazine and has also, in recent years, worked for a variety of charities including Shropshire Seniors and the Alzheimer’s Society.
He is married with three grown-up sons.
