Recent local elections

In the 2013 elections, Labour won eight seats on Shropshire Council in the Shrewsbury and Atcham constituency. The party gained Monkmoor and Sundorne from the Conservatives and held with increased majorities the seats of Bayston Hill, Column and Sutton; Belle Vue; Castlefields and Ditherington; and Harlescott. Labour came a close second in Bagley (short by 30 votes) and Battlefield (151).

In 2015 by-elections to Shropshire Council, Labour held Belle Vue and came second place in Meole.

Labour gained control of Shrewsbury Town Council in 2013, winning 7 of 17 seats and 44.4% of the vote compared to 36.3% for the Conservatives and 17.7% for the Liberal Democrats. The party successfully gained Column, Monkmoor, and Sundorne.

In 2009, Labour won six seats on Shropshire Council in the Shrewsbury and Atcham constituency. The party won three seats on Shrewsbury Town Council, subsequently gaining Harlescott in a 2010 by-election.

Before 2009

Prior to the creation of Shropshire Council in 2009, the county was divided into five district councils and a county council. Labour led Shropshire County Council, supported by the Liberal Democrats, between 2001 and 2005.

Labour was in minority control of Shrewsbury and Atcham Borough Council for most years in the 1990s. Labour was the largest party on the borough council from 1990 to 1993 and from 1995 to 2002.
