Eddie Uyan

My name is Eddie and I am the candidate for Underdale in May’s upcoming council elections.

My family and I have lived in Shrewsbury for over 20 years. In my younger days, I studied at the University of Teesside, where I graduated in Business and Finance. Since moving to Shrewsbury, I have been an active member of the business community, successfully owning and managing various food outlets, and now a boutique hotel. I am pleased to say that in 2017, I was awarded the Gold Award from the Mayor of Shrewsbury, for the Built Heritage Category. We are currently sensitively restoring the fabric of St Nicholas, the former church, as a boutique hotel. I am very proud to restore this beautiful building for use by future generations of our town.

If I am elected, I aim to work alongside you to mitigate any concerns you have and to help to improve Underdale, so I am open to suggestions about what you think should be looked into. At the moment, my main concerns are:
– Shropshire Council were considering selling off the old Training and Development Centre and half of Monkmoor Rec car park for new housing. Shropshire Council leaders have now said that they will not be selling the car park, so I will work with the people of Underdale and Monkmoor to make sure that we can keep the training centre until a suitable replacement is found.
– Monkmoor Road, along with various other roads in Underdale, have a lot of pot holes, which must be repaired.
– Aswell as this, lots of the street lights look rusted and faulty. These must be painted and fixed.
– Shropshire Council is reviving a small hydro-electric plant at the weir, in response to the climate emergency, with the support of Shrewsbury Town Council. Concerns were raised by residents about noise, but I am sure that advanced technology will help us with any noise problems and as a result, I will be supporting the hydro-electric plant.

I am sure that we are all in agreement that before we can tackle anything else, we must first defeat Covid-19, so this of course should be our first priority.

If you would like to discuss any of this with me further, please feel free to contact me.
