Shrewsbury Labour Party has raised almost £400 for a refugee project in Athens after one of our members visited and gave a talk about it.

Music at the City Plaza refugee project, supported by Shrewsbury and Atcham Labour Party members.

With the help of volunteers the City Plaza refugee project looks after some 400 refugees in a former hotel, integrating them into the community in Athens, providing schooling, food and clothing and the all important safe roof over their heads so that refugees can start to rebuild their lives.

This low key community led project shows that refugees need not be housed in camps far from anywhere as happens elsewhere, with government using the army and police to deal with the ‘problem’ rather than integrating people with the help of the local community.

Altogether our CLP raised £394.50 to donate to this cause. Thank you to all who participated and took part in Joan’s coffee morning.
